Are you a journalist or media professional in the Western Balkans committed to telling stories that matter?
We invite you to apply for an exclusive online training workshop designed to strengthen your reporting on labor rights, decent work, and socio-economic justice. This is a unique opportunity to gain the knowledge, tools, and connections needed to produce impactful journalism and advocate for workers’ rights in the region.
The workshop is organised by Institute for Social Policy Musine Kokalari and Centre for the Politics of Emancipation within the Decent Work Balkans platform.
Who Should Apply?
We are seeking students, journalists, and media professionals whose writing and publishing efforts are dedicated to advancing public policy and labour rights.
Why this Workshop?
In post-transition economies, workers face significant socio-economic challenges that are often underreported. We’ve noticed a gap in media coverage, where narratives can sometimes miss the structural injustices at play. This workshop aims to fill that gap by empowering you with the skills to contextualize workers’ struggles, highlight their rights, and present a more complete picture to the public.
By participating, you will contribute to a greater public understanding of workers’ rights, foster collaboration between journalists, civil society and trade unions, and increase the number of labor-focused stories across the region.
What You Will Learn?
Our two-day online workshops are designed to build your capacity in key areas of labor reporting. The curriculum will be led by experienced investigative journalists and labor rights experts from across the Western Balkans, offering diverse perspectives and practical insights. In this workshop, you will learn to:
Understand Labor Rights: Grasp key concepts and the legal frameworks for decent work in the Western Balkans.
Use Data for Impact: Utilize data and resources from the DWB initiative to inform your investigative reporting.
Frame the Narrative: Practice ethical reporting techniques to tell compelling stories that highlight structural injustices, rather than just focusing on victims.
Report on Global Supply Chains: Investigate the human rights injustices within global supply chains and understand the role of due diligence laws in addressing them.
Language: English
When: The seminar will be held in two sessions, 2 and 4 December, from 10 until 13h.
How to Apply: Just fill in the APPLICATION FORM.
Application Deadline: 27 November
We look forward to your application and to working together to promote a just and fair society in the Western Balkans.
